Little box of yellow
Tied with ribbon of white
Is all I have to hold
Of my little boy tonight.
His tiny little hat
And tiny baby blue gown
Are just sad reminders
That he'll never be around.
This tiny little card
With feet prints smudged in black
Are a lonely cry to me
That he's never coming back.
This little memory book
And a fuzzy sonogram
Remind me that my baby
Will never be at hand.
I'd do almost anything
To kiss those tiny cheeks
And watch my baby grow
As we go from week to week.
If the stars were mine to give to God
I'd count them, one by one
And gladly pay them all as price
To hold my precious son.
I'd rope the sun and moon and sky
And consider the ransom fair
To be able to run my hands
Across his soft and downy hair.
I'd take all the flowers I love so much
And give them all away
If it gave the chance to buy him
Just one more happy day.
I'd give the trees and bees and butterflies
And the deep blue days of summer
To see those little curious eyes
Filled with awestruck wonder.
Of all the beautiful things I see
It hurts my heart to know
That he'll never see the sunrise come
And I'll never watch him grow.
So, Lord, please kiss my Cristian
And hug him tight for me
And help me not to mourn
What was never meant to be.
Tell my boy I love him
And make him smile so sweet
Keep his laughter bubbling
Until once again we meet.
